A few weeks ago I tried making my own homemade hamburger patties. And they turned out great! My husband is the one who normally ends up grilling them and he said they held together well. Since the first batch turned out so well, I am making a second batch with pictures for your benefit.
Why would anyone want to make there own hamburger patties?
A quick comparison of the ingredient label of pre-made frozen hamburger patties compared to my home made patties will give you an idea. This example of premade, store bought hamburger patties contains: beef, beef hearts, water, soy flour, soy protein concentrate, flavors (?), mono-sodium glutamate, sugar, turmeric extractive and salt.
My homemade version only contains only 100% ground beef. My husband also adds seasonings before cooking the burgers.
Super easy instructions for making your own hamburger patties
- Open packages of hamburger you plan to use and put in a bowl.
- Form into individual balls for desired size. I like to make sure mine are uniform so I use my digital kitchen scale to make sure each patty is 1/4 lb (4 oz)
- Flatten each ball into round patties. I used the lid from a container of coconut oil lined with parchment paper to make the patties round. Then I removed each patty and flattened with my hand a little more.
- Stack patties with a layer of parchment paper between each hamburger patty.
- Put the patties in a freezer safe bag to freeze until they are needed.
Super easy, right?
You could preseason the patties before forming them into balls, but I like to leave that step to my husband when he cooks them!
While you’re at it, you could also top your cooked burgers with my homemade ketchup.
